Affinity Photo Channel/luma Keying Technique

Affinity Photo Channel/luma keying technique from a Photoshop tip for masking out elements and keeping the derails.
shift RGB channels to one with most contrast in this case blue
crush the contrast so that it is just white and black - no gray
cleanup the masking so that there will be no holes in the mask.
merge the edits and then turn the new merge image into a mask
add the mask to the main image and you have the sky masked out
You will need to soften/feather the edge a little. But other than that, you are good to go!

1700s Shipwreck

Past WIP of a previs shot for a adventure shot film series for a kids camp. For this shot, I am using Blender with the ocean tools and I split up the ship. All objects have basic shading no textures. My goal is to add Houdini to my toolset someday soon since I did a ship sailing in film school. This shot did not end up in the final, but I will most likely dive more into this type of shot/theme of a film for a fun challenge in the future.

Harmony Autotune Test

Here is an #autotune test to create harmony by offsetting the corrected pitch to a 3rd. I did not create the main music - just sang the vocals. I was having issues with my harmony plugins, so I wanted to try this technique instead with autotune offseting the pitch to find out what sounds better. I still can't sing that well without autotune. I was a little flat on some of the parts. Currently, I am working to be a better singer and music producer. 1st round of this harmony workflow. I am planning to do a full song with this techniques or play with different harmony plug-ins in one song. Then, have breakdowns and show how I created the effect.

Welcome to my Locals Community!

This will be a community that will help support me in creating music, films, and how to videos in sound, film, and VFX.

As of this post of 2024, the team member (brettahanson) will focus on my music journey pre-release music videos, take part of monthly music challenges, and BTS of projects or creation of music video.

The member (@swpictures) will focus more on VFX, film, and training tutorial videos or more detail of music producing of BTS posts from brettahanson.

Everything is still in the setup phase, but I am hoping the main setup will be done pretty soon.

Glad you are here either for the music or for the how to tutorials and I hope you find this community a great fit for you!

Take care and Godspeed

Goal of Mine

I have been a long fan of Video Copilot and his tutorials. One of my goals is to recreate this shot using different software. For example, the compositing would use either Fusion or Nuke and the 3D work would be done in either Houdini or Cinema 4D. Maybe Blender...we will see.
It was a task I started doing when I was in film school taking a tutorial and creating the effect/shot in different software. This type of training and thinking allows me to think through the "main concept" tools and workflow. From this undertaking, it showed the importance of the workflow not necessary the software itself. There are exception to the rules where a piece of software is just better or has a feature no one has. But usually, many tools can come close within each other for general tasks.

Video Copliot Jetstrike Tutorial

Past Tutorial from Video Copilot using After Effects Element 3D plugin with Jetstrike Pack. Plan to a version of this in my 3D workflow tools like Cinema 4D, Houdini, Blender, Substance Painter, NukeX, DaVinci Resolve, etc. to create a sequence animation.
